Clams are caught in the wild using dredges or hand-picked but the vast majority are being harvested in aquaculture. While it is not commercially farmed in Malta, it is imported in relatively large amounts.

This species is popularly harvested in farms, however in the wild, the impact of dredges can often be harmful for the seafloor. Assuming that most clams consumed in Malta are farmed and imported, fish for tomorrow suggests you eat in moderation due to the environmental implications of the aquaculture practices, and importation.
